Joining Forces for Next-Gen Hydrogen Technology

HySPRINT Partners with SCALE AEM as Sister Projects

As Europe powers toward its clean energy targets, building a competitive, scalable, and resilient hydrogen ecosystem requires more than individual technological breakthroughs, it demands cross-sector collaboration. At HySPRINT, we are thrilled to announce our official sister-project partnership with SCALE AEM!

Both funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, our projects share a core ambition: accelerating the industrialisation of next-generation electrolyser manufacturing to deliver affordable, high-efficiency clean hydrogen across Europe.

What We Bring to the Table: The HySPRINT Mission

While our sister project SCALE AEM advances Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolysis, HySPRINT focuses on driving Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC) into high-volume, automated manufacturing. SOEC stands out for its exceptional thermodynamic efficiency at high temperatures, making it a critical pillar for industrial-scale decarbonsation.

HySPRINT is transforming SOEC manufacturing through:

  • Low-Waste Manufacturing Techniques: Advanced processing methods, such as inkjet printing for oxygen electrodes, PVD magnetron sputtering for protective barrier layers, and the proprietary Re:Scale method, designed to drastically cut down raw material loss.

  • AI-Powered Quality Assurance: Deploying our Advanced Electrode Manufacturing Supervisor (AEMS) to monitor processes in real-time, detect defects during production, and minimise costly scrap rates.

  • Eco-Design & Circularity: Building sustainability into the core by eliminating Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) where possible, designing for easy component disassembly, and establishing clear circular-economy standards for SOEC systems.

Shared Vision: Why This Partnership Matters

Although HySPRINT and SCALE AEM explore different electrolysis pathways (SOEC vs. AEM), scaling up manufacturing from the lab to mass production presents common challenges across technologies.

Through this sister-project collaboration, HySPRINT and SCALE AEM will:

  • Exchange Expertise: Share key insights on automated assembly line design, inline AI quality control systems, and sustainable end-of-life recycling strategies.

  • Align Industry Best Practices: Address shared bottlenecks in supply chain scalability, standardisation, and eco-design for electrolyser hardware.

  • Drive Joint Dissemination: Engage in co-hosted events, joint workshops, and shared outreach to maximise our collective impact on Europe’s green transition.

By uniting our strengths, HySPRINT and SCALE AEM are making clean hydrogen production faster to build, more reliable to scale, and more sustainable throughout its lifecycle.

Stay tuned for upcoming joint workshops, publication updates, and collaborative milestones!
